Colors of Antigua

Did you know that there is an official color palette for all the exterior walls of Antigua? The Antigüeño Color Palette includes 10 colors: four variations of yellow (Tridentine, Jocotenango, La Merced & Pensativo), two shades of red (Santo Domingo Red & Concepción Red), two shades of blue (Celeste Colonial & Celeste Santiago), White, and Ochre.

Apparently, “To maintain the harmony and style of color in the historic center of the city, the CNPAG and its Historical Research Unit conducted archaeological studies in which samples were taken from colonial walls and used to determine which colors should be included in a historically accurate color scheme to be used in the city.”
