“… it’s like Mary when she discovers the Secret Garden.” La Escalonia is a tranquil and spacious retreat into flowers & plants. Once a private home, this property has been converted into a cafe ( with good fresh juices) an eclectic gift store, a small grocery store & a plant nursery. Beware, there’s usually a strange choice of music playing in the cafe- anything from Broadway show tunes to choral music to Enya-so choose wisely where to sit.
It’s a great way to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon in Antigua with a book or a friend… and it’s equally a great place to have a weekly Saturday morning conversational Spanish class over coffee (as I do).
Come here if you want to purchase: plants, wind chimes, gardening accessories, organic eggs/herbs/butter/jams/chocolate/pasta/banana chips/beauty products & soap…but above all, come here if you want to wander through beautiful flowers and relax in a garden- one that is generally full of both sunlight and shade.
